The newest episode of South Carolinians in WWII, "The Rising Sun," premieres Thursday, May 22 at 8:00 p.m. on ETV.

Produced as a partnership between the ETV Endowment and The State newspaper, the South Carolinians in WWII series tells the story of the war through the eyes of more than 150 South Carolina veterans.

"The Rising Sun," the sixth episode in the Emmy-nominated series, focuses on the early days of the war in the Pacific, from Pearl Harbor through the bloody battles of the Coral Sea, Midway and Guadalcanal.

The film also features Marines and their training on Parris Island and Navy veterans' life at sea.

“Capturing these personal stories and sharing them with the public has been more than an important project to catalogue our state’s history, it’s been an honor,” said producer Jeff Wilkinson, military reporter for The State newspaper.

The series is directed by Wade Sellers of Columbia’s Coal Powered Filmworks.  "It has been thrilling to hear stories of such adventure and suspense, friendship and sadness during the course of our interviews. At times you have to shake your head and remind yourself that these stories are true," said Sellers.

Executive producers are Elaine Freeman and John Rainey.

Repeat broadcasts are scheduled for Sunday, May 25 at 4:00 p.m. on ETV and Monday, May 26 at 8:00 p.m. on the South Carolina Channel.

South Carolina ETV is the state's public educational broadcasting network with 11 television and eight radio transmitters, and a multi-media educational system in more than 2,500 schools, colleges, businesses and government agencies. Using television, radio and the web, SCETV's mission is to enrich lives by educating children, informing and connecting citizens, celebrating our culture and environment and instilling the joy of learning.
