Post-Christmas Programming Provides Post-Christmas Pick-Me-Up

It's time to take down the tree, polish off the last gingersnap cookies, and put away the decorations until next year. But upcoming programs on ETV and the SC Channel will get even the most animated Christmas enthusiasts through this difficult time.  Highlights include:   

  • "Great Performances: From Vienna: The New Year's Celebration 2014," Wednesday, January 1 at 8:00 p.m. on ETV.  Stage and screen legend Julie Andrews returns for the fifth time to host the festive annual New Year's celebration with the Vienna Philharmonic, under the baton of guest conductor Daniel Barenboim and featuring Strauss Family waltzes accompanied by the beautiful dancing of the Vienna City Ballet.   
  • "Palmetto Scene," Thursday, January 2 at 7:30 p.m. on ETV.  "Palmetto Scene" is a South Carolina video magazine that explores the people, places, and culture of the Palmetto State. This episode shines a spotlight on SC Hall of Fame biographies, bringing you the inspirational stories of some of our state's best and brightest. 
  • "Carol Burnett: The Mark Twain Prize," Friday, January 3 at 9:00 p.m. on ETV.  Taped at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, this two-hour special features a star-studded cast of Burnett’s friends and colleagues including Julie Andrews, Lucie Arnaz, Tony Bennett, Tim Conway, Tina Fey, Rashida Jones, Vicki Lawrence, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, Rosemary Watson, Bruce Vilanch and special appearances by Ellen DeGeneres and Carl Reiner. The evening pays tribute to the humor and accomplishments of this television icon. 
  • Create TV Marathon: "Happy Resolutions," Saturday, January 4 from 6:00 a.m. – 12 noon on the SC Channel. Create chefs Christina Pirello, Joe Ciminera and Laura Theodore get the New Year off to a healthy start with recipes that are good for the mind, body and soul.  
  • "Masterpiece Classic: Downton Abbey, Season 4, Part 1," Sunday, January 5 at 9:00 p.m. on ETV.  The most-watched drama in PBS history enters its fourth season with the whole world waiting to learn how the beloved characters deal with a shocking tragedy.  The acclaimed ensemble is back, together with returning guest star Shirley MacLaine and new guest star Paul Giamatti. Also joining the cast are Harriet Walter, Gary Carr, Joanna David, and Tom Cullen, as the legend continues on Downton Abbey, Season 4, airing over eight Sundays beginning with a two-hour premiere.
