Columbia, SC...On the Wednesday early-morning edition of ETV Radio’s “The Big Picture,” Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, locked in a neck-and-neck finish with Democratic challenger Robert Barber, said that it looks like 3300 votes separate him from Barber. In response to the observation that there reportedly is one box of votes that remains to be counted, Bauer said, “I had somebody look. There were no boxes over 2000 votes…it is kind of crazy that that one box is still out. If it is a Greenville box, it could get closer.”
Initially saying that he felt good, Bauer then went on to say, “Anytime you have a close race, I don’t know how good you can feel. I imagine this will carry on for a few days.”
Bauer, who said he was on his way to several-hours of physical therapy, admitted that he was still in quite a bit of physical pain, and that he was “a little tired, (but) I rebound pretty quickly.” Despite his pain, Bauer recounted to program host Andrew Gobeil and guest Brad Warthen of The State newspaper, how he had witnessed a traffic accident on Tuesday, and had “tried to run across six lanes of traffic” to see if he could help out.
Instead of speaking with lawyers Wednesday morning about the possibility of a recount, Bauer said, “I have been on the side of the road waving with a big ‘Thank You’ sign to all the people who have been so good to us.”
Democratic challenger Barber was invited to appear on “The Big Picture on the Radio,” but his representative declined, citing Barber’s unavailability.
