Columbia, SC...On Thursday, Oct. 5 at 9 p.m., ETV’s award-winning series, Carolina Stories, presents Pee Wee, an hour-long documentary that delves into the mysteries behind the most notorious criminal in South Carolina’s history, Donald “Pee Wee” Gaskins.

Fifteen years ago last month, Gaskins was executed in an electric chair by the South Carolina Department of Corrections.  This was the end to a life that was filled with extreme violence.

However, is it possible that this man could have truly committed so many heinous acts?  On the program, ETV producer Sanford Adams explores Gaskins’ old haunts on the outskirts of Florence, Myrtle Beach, Sumter and Prospect, South Carolina.  Through interviews with law enforcement officials, including William C. Barnes, the former Sheriff of Florence County during Gaskins’ reign of terror, another story begins to emerge; a story of a man who knew his best chance at immortality was to create a myth about himself that would never be forgotten.

Although no one questions the depravity of his crimes, viewers can weigh the evidence on how much of the “Final Truth” is fact, and how much is the invention of a man who thrived on instilling fear in the hearts of others?  Pee Wee peels back the layers of this well-known, but still enigmatic figure, in search of the truth.

Carolina Stories is a weekly series created by ETV producers that spotlights the people, events and interests of South Carolinians. The series airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. Saving Sandy Island, a documentary from the first season, won a 2006 Telly Award.
