Columbia, SC...On Sunday, July 1 at 10:30 p.m., ETV airs the statewide preview of acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns' new documentary, The War.  This 30-minute excerpt is a behind-the-scenes look at the film production process with insights from individuals featured in the series as well as thoughts from the show’s producers, Ken Burns and Lynn Novick.

Encore presentations will air Sunday, July 22 at 10:30 p.m. and Wednesday, July 25 at 10 p.m.

Six years in the making, The War explores the history and horror of the Second World War from an American perspective.  Focusing on the stories of residents from four geographically diverse American towns - Waterbury, CT; Mobile, AL; Sacramento, CA; and the tiny farming town of Luverne, MN, individuals from each community allow viewers a glimpse of their own personal, and often excruciating, journeys into war. Vivid portrayals of how the war dramatically altered their lives and those of their neighbors, as well as the country they helped to defend, underscore the overall impact of this documentary.

"The Second World War was so massive, catastrophic and complex, it is almost beyond the mind’s and the heart’s capacity to process everything that happened,” said Burns.

About the series:

Narrated by actor Keith David, The War also features first-person voices of Tom Hanks, Josh Lucas, Bobby Cannavale, Samuel L. Jackson, Eli Wallach, Robert Wahlberg, Carolyn McCormack, Adam Arkin, and Kevin Conway.

The seven-part documentary will air over two weeks beginning Sunday, September 23, 2007 on all ETV stations.
