Columbia, SC...On Tuesday, Jan. 2, beginning at 10 a.m., ETV will broadcast Funeral of President Gerald Ford: A NewsHour Special Report. The LIVE coverage of the national funeral service at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. is expected to run approximately two-hours. Individuals scheduled to eulogize the late President include Presidents George W. Bush and George Herbert Walker Bush, Henry Kissinger and Tom Brokaw. This special NewsHour program will be anchored by Jim Lehrer.
Additionally, Time and Chance: Gerald Ford's Appointment with History, will air on Monday, Jan. 1 at 7 p.m. The program, adapted in part from James M. Cannon's book of the same title, is a documentary about the man who was never elected to higher office but who served in the presidency for nearly 1,000 days in 1974-77, when the nation was challenged by war, inflation and political turmoil. The film traces Ford's formative years in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and chronicles his political career as a 13-term congressman, vice president and president. It is the first full-scale documentary about the nation's 38th president.
The late James Brown will also be remembered on Sunday, Dec. 31, at 4 p.m., with a special broadcast of the American Masters program, James Brown: Soul Survivor. This film, which celebrates the iconic entertainer’s legacy, explores the era of “funk” that Brown created, ushering in an immaculate rhythmic tension that paralleled the evolution of the Civil Rights movement. The program includes interviews with Brown, commentary by his closest friends, fellow musicians and celebrities, original performances and rare archival footage.
