Columbia, SC...Dazzling displays of fireworks light up the night sky over the Washington Monument as America’s biggest birthday celebration begins. In observance of Independence Day, ETV presents the award-winning production, A Capitol Fourth. The program airs statewide on Wednesday, July 4 at 8 p.m.
This musical extravaganza, live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, will feature some of the country’s best known and award-winning musical artists performing with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Erich Kunzel. The nation’s premiere Independence Day celebration will conclude with a rousing rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” complete with live cannon fire provided by the United States Army Presidential Salute Battery.
“It’s hard to imagine A Capitol Fourth is over a quarter of a century old,” reflected executive producer Jerry Colbert, who is also the event’s founder. “It’s a great honor to produce this special event that not only celebrates the birthday of our nation but the ideals we are founded on, and also clearly demonstrates how much unites us as Americans.”
