Presbyterian College and Newberry College Face Off on Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m.
For Immediate Release
October 18, 2006
Columbia, SC...On Saturday, Nov. 11, ETV and ETV's South Carolina Channel will present a LIVE statewide broadcast of the 94th Bronze Derby. This classic rivalry between the Presbyterian College Blue Hose and the Newberry College Indians begins at 1:30 p.m.
An encore presentation of the game will air at midnight on all ETV stations and on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m on the South Carolina Channel.
The Bronze Derby, an annual showdown between these schools, was a tradition begun in 1947, when in a basketball game scuffle, a Newberry student grabbed the hat from a Presbyterian student's head and ran off. The hat was later bronzed and over time came to symbolize the fierce rivalry of these teams.
Each year, the winner of the Bronze Derby game is presented with the now famous hat until the following year. This game is being played in Bailey Memorial Stadium at Crocker Field in Clinton, SC.
Coverage of the Bronze Derby will be provided by the ETV Sports team of Emerson Phillips, Willie Jeffries and Cara Campbell.
