ETV Sports Delivers New Season of College Football for 2006

For Immediate Release
August 16, 2006

Columbia, SC...Beginning this September, ETV kicks off another year of gridiron action with five high-profile games.  It all starts on Saturday, September 2, when the Charleston Southern Buccaneers take on the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College.  ETV and ETV’s digital broadcast service, the South Carolina Channel, bring live statewide coverage of this battle beginning at 1:30 p.m.

As the reigning 2005 Big South Conference champs, the Bucs travel to Bailey Memorial Stadium in Clinton to square off against 2005’s South Atlantic Conference title holder.  Fans from all corners of the Palmetto State have the best seat in the house, as ETV Sports brings Blue Hose and Buccaneers action front and center.

Then on Saturday, September 23, beginning at 12:30 p.m., football fans get a rematch of one of last year's most exciting games when the Bulldogs of South Carolina State visit the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.  In 2005, ETV was there as Coastal pulled off the upset against SC State, scoring a touchdown with only 17 seconds on the clock to win 24-23.  How will the Bulldogs respond this year?

The excitment continues over the coming months with the following slate of games:

  • Saturday, October 7 at 1:30 p.m. - Citadel vs. Wofford
  • Saturday, November 11 at 1:30 p.m. - Newberry vs. Presbyterian (Bronze Derby)
  • Saturday, December 9 at 12:30 p.m. - North South All-Star Game

Encore broadcasts of these games will air on all ETV stations at midnight of the same day and on the South Carolina Channel at noon the day after they aired originally.

As if great football weren’t enough, this season marks the debut of Willie Jeffries, former South Carolina State University head coach, as color analyst.  Emerson Phillips and Cara Campbell round out the ETV Sports Team lineup and will be on hand with the play-by-play commentary and highlights for both games.

South Carolina ETV is the state's public educational broadcasting network with 11 television and eight radio transmitters, and a multi-media educational system in more than 2,500 schools, colleges, businesses and government agencies. Using television, radio and the web, SCETV's mission is to enrich lives by educating children, informing and connecting citizens, celebrating our culture and environment and instilling the joy of learning.
