Columbia, SC…Every car has a story to tell, and this November, ETV takes you on a nostalgic journey to discover the tales of classic cars from the Lowcountry. Prepare to be transported to another time as collectors share their memories about these historic vehicles on “Vintage Auto Television.” Tune in on Sunday Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. on ETV-HD and again for an encore presentation on Sunday Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. on the South Carolina Channel, to come along for the ride.
The 30-minute special offers four takes on cars that have beaten the odds of time. The show specifically profiles several classics, including:
WATCH A PREVIEW:
- 1947 Ford Sportsman Super Deluxe Convertible Woody
- 1963 Chevrolet Impala Convertible
- 1926 Packard Sport Roadster
- 1966 Studebaker Daytona
The car’s owners--all of whom hail from Hilton Head--reveal the unique history of their cars, and what makes each so special. George Rock, owner of the 1947 Woody talks about how his love for his classic began during childhood. When he was eleven his family was put on a wait list to get the car and today after renovations, he is still driving that original vehicle.
Co-owners of the 1926 Packard, Ray Heus and Pete Juranich, also talk about what makes their car so special. They notice that no matter where they go, the car never fails to draw a crowd. But they are sure to convey the “look but don’t touch” message, using an interesting and entertaining method that involves a pair of walkie-talkies. Although all the owners have different recollections with the car, they all pride themselves on being able to drive and care for a piece of history.
The idea for this program came about through a collaboration between producer Guy Smith and the Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance, and the rest is history. The program will not only give you a chance to witness a piece of automotive history, but will also give you insight into America’s love affair with cars, and how that has affected our culture and heritage.
