Columbia, SC...ETV has been nominated for three Regional Emmy awards, recognizing outstanding achievement for one of its brand-new shows and two of its long-running programs. The winners of the 2008 Regional Emmy awards will be announced by the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences during a ceremony on Saturday, June 21, in Atlanta.
Nominations went to the following programs:
- The Big Picture received its first nomination in the Health/Science Television News and Program Specialty Excellence category for its epsiode on Shaken Baby Syndrome. The program focused on a topic that endangers the smallest and most defenseless among us--and possible legislation that could help prevent it. In April, this episode won the 2008 Award for Excellence in Medical and Health Care Reporting (Broadcast) given by the South Carolina Medical Association. The Big Picture airs every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on ETV.
- Bluegrass Express, the concert series highlighting regional and national bluegrass bands, is up for an award for Arts/Entertainment Television News and Program Specialty Excellence. This is the fourth nomination for Bluegrass Express, and the third to feature a performance by the South Carolina-based band Last Road. Bluegrass Express airs Saturdays at 8 p.m. on ETV's digital broadcast service, The South Carolina Channel.
- Making It Grow! received its ninth nomination, this one in the Television Advanced Media Excellence category for Making It Grow! Extra, the 10-15 minute Webisodes that air following the programs. These video segments are streamed live on the show's Web site, www.mig.org, and allow visitors to continue the "conversation" and interact with host Debbie Hayes and other members and guests. Making It Grow!, which has previously won five Emmy Awards, airs on both ETV and ETV’s South Carolina Channel every Tuesday at 7 p.m. Hosted by Rowland Alston, the program is a co-production of ETV and Clemson University.
