ETV Radio to broadcast Chamber Music from Spoleto Festival USA

Performances from this year's CHAMBER MUSIC FROM SPOLETO USA will air weekdays May 30 – June 6 at 10:00 a.m. and June 9 – June 13 at 9:00 a.m. on ETV Radio's classical service.  

This year’s concerts, under the leadership of violinist Geoff Nuttall, are recorded by ETV Radio at the Dock Street Theatre and feature oboist James Austin Smith, the St. Lawrence String Quartet, and pianist Stephen Prutsman.  

Highlights include the world premiere of Color Preludes for String Quintet by pianist/composer/conductor Stephen Prutsman; appearances by Swedish mezzo-soprano Charlotte Hellekant; two arias from Handel’s Giulio Cesare; George Crumb’s “Vox Balaenae (Voice of the Whale);” Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in D Minor, op. 49, no. 1; Schoenberg’s “Ein Stelldichein;” Michael Colgrass’s “Hammer and Bow;” a chamber arrangement of Haydn’s Symphony no. 102 in B-flat Major; a string sextet from Richard Strauss’s opera Capriccio; a solo jazz set by Stephen Prutsman; and Vaughan Williams’s Piano Quintet in C Minor.

These 2014 concerts on ETV Radio provide listeners with an immediate and first-rate musical experience.  The concerts are also presented nationally and internationally by ETV Radio as the public radio series “Chamber Music from Spoleto Festival USA” with host Miles Hoffman.
