Columbia, SC... One of the most powerful men in Canada is not a Canadian businessman, entertainment figure or even a hockey player. He is a self-deprecating politician from the Upstate of South Carolina. David Wilkins, a Greenville attorney who wended his way through the political structure of South Carolina, is now the United States’ ambassador to Canada.
On Thursday, Oct. 12 at 9 p.m., ETV’s Andrew Gobeil, producer and anchor of the program, provides an insightful look at the ambassador’s experiences in Bonjour Y’all: From the Carolinas to Canada. The half-hour program airs on Wilkins’ 60th birthday.
From his initial impressions of a Canadian winter, to his work in achieving a consensus on a trade issue that has dogged both Washington and Ottawa, to his not-so-successful attempt at skating in the Canadian capital, this special chronicles his first year in office.
Susan Wilkins also treats viewers to a tour of their residence, which is filled with the works of some of South Carolina’s best-known artists.
South Carolina ETV is the state's public educational broadcasting network with 11 television and eight radio transmitters, and a multi-media educational system in more than 2,500 schools, colleges, businesses and government agencies.
