ETV Presents the Best Races from the 2009 Carolina First Carolina Cup

For Immediate Release
March 25, 2009

The steady rhythm of strapping thoroughbred horses pounding the track at breathless speeds on a warm spring day will once again enliven the Springdale Race Course at the time-honored Carolina First Carolina Cup. The afternoon of races, witnessed by as many as 65,000 fans decked in sports coats and sundresses takes place in Camden--South Carolina’s oldest inland city--on Saturday, March 28. Can't make it? Never fear.

On Sunday, April 5 at 7 p.m., the thunder of hooves will again be heard as ETV presents statewide coverage of the best of the Cup races for fans who couldn’t be there in person, or for those who simply want to relive the excitement.

Hosted by Mark Quinn, ETV’s half hour recap will feature four of the day’s contests, with the crowning Carolina Cup race as its grand finale. ETV will air encore presentations at midnight on Monday, April 6 and again on Sunday, May 3 at 5:30 p.m., the day after the Kentucky Derby.

For 77 years, the combination of seeing professional steeplechase races alongside other enthusiastic, adrenaline-pumped fans at the Springdale Race Course has made the Carolina First Carolina Cup one of the "can't-miss" events of the year. The ability to watch those races up close on ETV--and without getting a drink spilled on your seersucker--has brought the Cup to an even wider audience, becoming a "can't-miss" show for steeplechase lovers across the Palmetto state.

South Carolina ETV is the state's public educational broadcasting network with 11 television and eight radio transmitters, and a multi-media educational system in more than 2,500 schools, colleges, businesses and government agencies. Using television, radio and the web, SCETV's mission is to enrich lives by educating children, informing and connecting citizens, celebrating our culture and environment and instilling the joy of learning.
