Columbia, SC...ETV has been nominated for five 2007 Regional Emmy awards, giving the network 20 nominations in the last five years. The winners of the 2007 Regional Emmy awards will be announced by the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences during a ceremony on Saturday, Jun. 23, in Atlanta.
Since debuting a little over a year ago, ETV's signature series Carolina Stories--airing Thursdays at 9 p.m.--has been honored with a total of three nominations, including two this year for:
- Outstanding Achievement for a Documentary for "Pee Wee," which explores the myths perpetuated by the most notorious criminal in South Carolina’s history, Donald "Pee Wee" Gaskins.
- Outstanding Achievement for Photography for "Battle of Camden." For this production, Bruce Mayer and Tommy Burgess captured vivid reenactments of one the most demoralizing and bloody defeats suffered by the Americans during the Revolutionary War.
Continuing its impressive run, Bluegrass Express picked up another two nominations this year:
- Outstanding Audio Achievement by Allen Tapp, Kevin Jordan, Frank Fickling and Hap Griffin.
- Outstanding Achievement in Directing for a Live or Live-to-Tape program by Will Anderson.
Both nominations are for the recording of a concert by the band Last Road. Bluegrass Express highlights musical performances by some of the region's best bluegrass acts, and airs Saturdays at 8 p.m. on ETV's digital broadcast service, the South Carolina Channel.
Perennial favorite Making It Grow! was also nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Set Design, for its Halloween program. The special holiday set included a fog machine, cobwebs and creepy critters scattered throughout, and even costumed trick-or-treaters who came to the door.
Previously, Making It Grow! has garnered eight Emmy nominations and four awards (including two for set design). Making It Grow! airs on both ETV and ETV’s South Carolina Channel every Tuesday at 7 p.m. Hosted by Rowland Alston, this program is a co-production of ETV and Clemson University.
"All of our research and anecdotal information tell us that South Carolinians want and appreciate programming devoted to topics affecting the Palmetto State," said Maurice "Moss" Bresnahan, president of ETV. "It’s gratifying to see that the Academy recognizes the high quality of local programming we’ve created in response to our citizens’ wishes."
South Carolina ETV is the state's public educational broadcasting network with 11 television and eight radio transmitters, and a multi-media educational system in more than 2,500 schools, colleges, businesses and government agencies. Using television, radio and the web, SCETV's mission is to enrich lives by educating children, informing and connecting citizens, celebrating our culture and environment and instilling the joy of learning.
