ETV Marks the Second Anniversary of the Opening of the Ravenel Bridge

For Immediate Release
June 7, 2007

Columbia, SC...This July, ETV celebrates the second anniversary of the opening of the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge with programs documenting the construction of the new bridge, as well as the demolition of the old.

Landmarks of the Lowcountry: Demolition of the Old Cooper River Bridges airs Sunday, July 8 at 7 p.m.  This dramatic production details the efforts behind the dismantling of the Grace and Pearman bridges beginning in late 2005 and continuing into 2006. Complete with powerful footge of explosions that reduced the bridges to rubble, the program also identifies how the concrete from these old bridges is helping to create an artificial reef, while the steel is recycled for other uses.

On Sunday, July 15, beginning at 4 p.m., ETV will present three half-hour programs updating the construction of South Carolina’s largest single infrastructure project, the Ravenel Bridge. New Cooper River Bridge Updates are a look back at what it took to build the 1,546-foot structure, with interviews from engineers and planners, and beautiful panoramic shots from atop the bridge.

Then at 5:30 p.m., Arthur Ravenel Bridge: A Bridge to the Future takes an in-depth look at the newest feature to the Charleston skyline, including footage from the opening week’s celebration, replete with the fireworks display that filled the night sky on July 17, 2005.
