ETV Helps Get Students Ready To Vote

Columbia, SC…On Thursday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m., ETV’s Project Discovery, in tandem with the Ready To Vote Web site at Knowitall.org, presents Ready To Vote: Citizenship At Work. Hosted by ETV’s news and public affairs producer Andrew Gobeil, this LIVE statewide broadcast will stimulate insightful discussions about the voting process and educate students about their right to vote.

Ready To Vote: Citizenship At Work is designed for middle and high school students and will be broadcast from ETV's Rock Hill regional station. Students from Northwestern and Rock Hill High School along with state political scholars and members of the State Legislature will explore thought-provoking perspectives on the historical aspects of South Carolina politics.

Special guests will include:

  • Rep. Joe Neal (D), District 70 - Richland and Sumter counties
  • Sen. James H. "Jim" Ritchie, Jr. (R), District 13 - Greenville, Spartanburg, and Union counties
  • Dr. Blease Graham, Professor of Political Science and Director of the John C. West Forum, USC

Students from across the state are invited to e-mail questions by noon on November 1 to Andrew Gobeil at rtv@scetv.org. They will also have the option to call in their questions during the broadcast via a toll-free number that will be announced during the program.

Ready To Vote at Knowitall.org is an outreach project of ETV’s 2006 election coverage. The goal of Ready To Vote is to involve as many South Carolina teens in the American electoral experience as possible.

Project Discovery is an interactive electronic field trip that allows South Carolina students to visit places and talk to experts or historians around our state.

Northwestern High School and Rock Hill High School are located within Rock Hill School District Three of York County.

South Carolina ETV is the state's public educational broadcasting network with 11 television and eight radio transmitters, and a multi-media educational system in more than 2,500 schools, colleges, businesses and government agencies.
