"ETV Forum" to Address South Carolina's Unemployment Blues

Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m.

For Immediate Release
February 11, 2009

Columbia, SC… South Carolina's unemployment rate rose to 9.5 percent in December, the third highest in the nation, and some are saying it could go higher in the months to come.

As the Palmetto State's jobless ranks continue to swell, and with state agencies and services facing mounting cutbacks, what remedies are in sight? What job training opportunities are available, and what has been the impact on non-profit agencies that have seen the people who need their services rise at the same time as donations drop? How much worse will the situation become before it gets better?

ETV examines these questions and more on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m., with the broadcast of the ETV Forum: South Carolina’s Unemployment Blues.

Joining host Beryl Dakers for this hour-long program are experts who will help South Carolinians make sense of it all, as well as provide information about resources that are available to help.

Guests include:

  • Joe Benton, Past President, SC State Employees Association
  • Rick Hammond, President, South Carolina State Credit Union
  • Denise R. Holland, CEO, Harvest Hope Food Bank
  • David Hughes, Professor, Applied Economics and Statistics, Clemson University
