ETV Airs Special Programs to Honor Former Governor Robert McNair
Programs Will Be Carried on ETV, ETV Radio, and ETV's South Carolina Channel

Columbia, SC... ETV will air several programs to honor Former Governor Robert McNair, who passed away this morning at the age of 83. McNair served as Governor of South Carolina from 1965-1971. The programs will be carried on ETV, ETV Radio, and ETV's South Carolina Channel. The schedule is as follows:
- ETV and ETV Radio will air Gov. McNair's funeral live, beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20. The service will also be streamed over the Internet at www.myetv.org.
On ETV
On Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m., ETV presents Governor McNair's State of the State Address, originally broadcast in 1967.
Then at 4 p.m., "The Big Picture: Former Governors, Part 2" will air. "The Big Picture" host Andrew Gobeil welcomes five former SC Governors in an unprecedented gathering to reminisce about their role in state government. Included in this unique gathering are David Beasley, James Edwards, James Hodges, Robert McNair, and Richard Riley.
At 7 p.m., "The Big Picture Special: A Look Back at the Life of Governor Robert McNair "- ETV takes a look at the unique history of former South Carolina Governor Robert McNair, from his first steps on South Carolina's public stage, to one of his most recent television appearances.
Immediately following the funeral service on Tuesday, Nov. 20, ETV presents "Up Close - Governor Robert Evander McNair: A Man for the Times." This program contains interviews with McNair, the first lady, and many of the people who knew him, influenced him or were close associates during his political life including Vice President Hubert Humphrey; Strom Thurmond; Solomon Blatt; Pete Strom; Rembert Dennis; his administrative assistant, Katherine Wolfe; his legal assistant, Wayne Corley; his executive assistant, James Konduras; and Harry Dent.
On Thursday, Nov. 22, at 5 p.m., ETV presents 800 Richland Street,which takes viewers back to the Governor's mansion as it was in 1967, when McNair and his family lived there.
Immediately following, at 5: 30 p.m., an encore presentation of Up Close - Governor Robert Evander McNair: A Man for the Times will air.
ON ETV Radio:
Prior to the funeral service, beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20, ETV Radio will present a special encore of Walter Edgar's Journal featuring an interview with Governor McNair. Recorded in 2004, McNair talks about his childhood, his war experiences, and his time in public office during the turbulent '60s. He talks candidly about integration efforts in the state during that time, and the set-backs that he regrets.
On Friday, Nov. 23 at 12 noon, ETV Radio presents a second special encore presentation of Walter Edgar's Journal featuring an interview with South Carolina first lady Josephine McNair. The first lady reminisces about her time at the Governor's mansion in the late '60s and early '70s. She shares her experiences about what it was like to juggle the responsibility of raising a family while fulfilling her duties as first lady.
On ETV's South Carolina Channel
ETV's South Carolina Channel, will air three special programs all on Tuesday, Nov. 20 beginning at noon.
- 12 p.m. - An encore presentation of Governor McNair's 1967 State of the State Address.
- 1 p.m. - "The Big Picture: Former Governors, Part 1" - "The Big Picture" host Andrew Gobeil welcomes five former SC Governors in an unprecedented gathering to reminisce about their role in state government. Included in this unique gathering are David Beasley, James Edwards, James Hodges, Robert McNair, and Richard Riley.
- 2 p.m. - "The Big Picture: Former Governors, Part 2" - "The Big Picture" host Andrew Gobeil welcomes five former SC Governors in an unprecedented gathering to reminisce about their role in state government. Included in this unique gathering are David Beasley, James Edwards, James Hodges, Robert McNair, and Richard Riley.
On Saturday, Nov. 24 at 10:30 a.m., the South Carolina Channel will rebroacast the funeral service.
