ETV Airs 22nd Annual Black History Teleconference
on Feb. 22 at 4 p.m.
Teleconference Takes Place on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m.

Columbia, SC… The 22nd annual Black History Teleconference will be held on the campus of Benedict College in Columbia on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. The special features six high school students and one Benedict student who direct questions to seven prominent African Americans about their ideas, challenges, and achievements in relation to the national theme from the Association for the Study of African-American Life and History in Washington, D. C.
The program airs on ETV Sunday, Feb.22 at 4 p.m. It will also be broadcast to school districts, colleges, universities, and public television stations nationwide, and be telecast to 177 countries.
Scheduled panelists include:
- Dr. Hardin Coleman, dean, School of Education, Boston University in Massachusetts
- Roderick Dixon, international tenor, Chicago
- Rebecca C. Jackson, president of Omega Optical Eyewear and Rita’s Ice Company in Philadelphia
- Attorney Peggy McFadden-Elmore, deputy director of operations, Federal Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals, Washington, DC
- Leslie Jones Patterson, partner at Ernst & Young, LLP, Financial and Tax Operations, Atlanta, Ga.
- Aubyne E. Thomas, senior vice president, Corporate Marketing, Macy’s, Inc., New York City
- Attorney Melford W. Walker Jr., vice president and assistant general counsel, Wachovia Corporation, Charlotte, NC.
High school students participating are from:
- A.C. Flora High School
- Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School
- Lower Richland High School
- Richland Northeast High School
- Spring Valley High School
- W. J. Keenan High School
The program was developed by Executive Producer Dr. Marianna White Davis, special assistant to Dr. David H. Swinton, president of Benedict College. Dr. Davis, an English teacher, lecturer, researcher, and writer, also heads the Benedict College Certification Process for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Co-sponsoring this year’s program are ETV, Benedict College, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Wesley United Methodist Church, and the Riverview Terrace Community Organization of Richland County.
