Charleston County School District's Chicora School of Communications Recognized by ETV and Discovery Education for Outstanding Use of StreamlineSC in the Classroom

Discovery Education's Chief Spokesperson for Environmental Education Philippe Cousteau Visits Chicora School of Communications

WHAT:
On Thursday, March 18, ETV and Discovery Education will recognize Charleston County School District's Chicora School of Communications' outstanding use of StreamlineSC, the largest library of digital content correlated to South Carolina curriculum standards available to educators today, with a visit from Discovery Education's Chief Spokesperson for Environmental Education Philippe Cousteau, grandson of famed explorer Jacques Cousteau. During Cousteau's visit to the school, he will tell his inspiring personal story, recount recent explorations, discuss the tremendous possibilities today's educational technologies offer students, and encourage academic achievement in environmental education and science.

Chicora School of Communications, an Elementary Magnet School, is the highest per-capita user of StreamlineSC in the state since the service became available in August 2004. Chicora's use of SteamlineSC's digital content to engage students in learning is a testament to Charleston County School District's efforts to use the latest educational technologies to improve academic achievement and build a competitive, tech-savvy, 21st century workforce.

Chicora School of Communications will also be honored at an awards luncheon at ETV's Columbia studios on March 17, during ETV's semi-annual three-day educational technology conference. Of the 18 awards being handed out at the event, Chicora will receive three:

  • Highest Usage Among All Elementary Schools in South Carolina
  • Highest Usage Among All Public Schools in South Carolina
  • Highest Usage By a Single Teacher in South Carolina (Awarded to Heidi Boes. a third grade teacher at Chicora)

ETV partners with Discovery Education, a division of Discovery Communications whose networks include Discovery Channel, Science Channel, and Animal Planet, to provide StreamlineSC to public school educators statewide at no cost.
