Renowned authors and editors will be featured on ETV Radio’s Walter Edgar’s Journal throughout the month of April.

From books to barbecue, from current events to colonial history, Walter Edgar's Journal delves into the arts, culture, history of South Carolina and the American South.  Hosted by Dr. Walter Edgar, the program is one of ETV Radio's most popular South Carolina-based shows.

Dr. Edgar was recently awarded the 2013 “Preserving Our Places in History” Lifetime Achievement Award, given by the South Carolina African Heritage Commission. The award recognizes a person, group or organization that has made a notable, successful, sustained and lasting contribution to the preservation of African American history and culture in South Carolina.

On April 5 at 12:00 p.m., Dr. R. Blakeslee Gilpin, Associate Professor of History at the University of South Carolina, returns to Walter Edgar's Journal to talk with Dr. Edgar about the life and work of Virginia author, William Styron. Working with Styron’s widow, Rose Styron, Dr. Gilpin edited the author’s correspondences in Selected Letters of William Styron, (Random House, December 2012).

Winston Groom, author of Forrest Gump, has written a number of well-received histories including Vicksburg, 1863 (Knopf Doubleday, April 2010). Groom joins Walter Edgar’s Journal on April 19 at 12:00 p.m. and talks about the siege of Vicksburg in a presentation that is part of the series “Conversations on the Civil War, 1863,” held at USC, Columbia.

Dr. Stephen R. Wise also takes part in the “Conversations on the Civil War, 1863” series, on Walter Edgar’s Journal on April 26 at 12:00 p.m.  Dr. Wise is curator of the Parris Island Museum of Marine Corps History and author of Gate of Hell: Campaign for Charleston Harbor, 1863 (USC Press).
