For Immediate Release
April 25, 2007
Columbia, SC...Avast ye scurvy dogs! If ye be raisin' your spyglass into the month o' May, ye'll surely be seein' on the horizon a buccaneer movie by the name o' "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" (May 25).
'Tis a cinematic sight to behold, f'sure, but alas, 'tis only imagination. Never there was a true pirate by the name o' Cap'n Jack Sparrow, nor a ship by the name o' the Black Pearl that roamed the high seas to the ends o' the earth.
But on Thursday, May 24 at 9 p.m., ETV will be whettin' the appetites o' adventure seekers everywhere who have a taste for true tales of the high seas with "Pirate Fever: A Sneak Peek at the Pirates of the Carolinas." These real pirates o' the Carolinas tell a dead man's tale better than any Hollywood landlubber could muster.
Bloodthirsty scoundrels, the likes o' Blackbeard, Stede Bonnet, Charles Vane, Edward Low and "Calico" Jack Rackham marauded all along the Carolina Coast, in search o' booty to fill their coffers--and they weren't alone, with female pirates like Mary Read, Ann Mills and Charleston's own Anne Bonny, who be wantin' their own cut o' the loot.
"Pirate Fever: A Sneak Peek at Pirates of the Carolinas" be a preview o' the treasure that remains hidden until Thursday, Nov. 22 when the hour-long program, "Carolina Stories: Pirates of the Carolinas," will be uncovered. This gem of a show will be an exploration o' the Golden Age of Piracy from roughly 1690 to 1720. ETV digs up the truth about these cutthroats--and many others--who terrorized the Carolina coasts, including the mystery of the un-holy grail, a silver goblet rumored to be made from Blackbeard's skull.
Arrrgh! There be a good reason that Thursday, Nov. 22 was chosen for the "Carolina Stories: Pirates of the Carolinas" debut: 'Tis the 289th anniversary o' the demise o' Blackbeard, whose head was loosed from his body and hanged for many years from Virginia's Hampton Bay as a chilling warning to other would-be sea bandits.
