Dear Viewers and Listeners:
As South Carolina schools move forward with the new year, education is top of mind at ETV.
Creative teacher training in a state-of-the-art classroom is happening now at ETV. The “Idea Lab” in the ETV Telecommunications Center is a beautiful remodeled facility that features a wall of windows looking out to the Columbia cityscape. Hands-on training for teachers in the “Idea Lab” began the first week of July. Week-long workshops were offered, which included courses on ETV services, using the Internet and iPad for free webtools and apps, and more. The lab features all-new mobile devices, laptops and tablets in a wireless environment, and can also be utilized for receptions, meetings and conferences.
ETV’s StreamlineSC has a new content provider: Learn360. This new classroom video resources provider brings access to materials from the BBC, National Geographic, Encyclopædia Britannica, History, Bio, Cambridge Educational, and many more. In addition, ETV StreamlineSC continues to provide ETV-produced South Carolina content, as well as free K–12 resources to all public, private and home schools throughout South Carolina.
Also this month, ETV HD offers a full day of programming on September 27 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. American Graduate Day 2014: Let’s Make It Happen is a public media initiative, supported by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, designed to help students stay on the path to high school graduation. The full-day broadcast and outreach event features celebrity guests, engaging spokespeople and stories from the students themselves. Interspersed in the programming are local segments produced by ETV, which highlight education initiatives from around the state.
Education is central to ETV’s mission, and these innovative enterprises are examples of the commitment we have made to provide quality resources to help educate the next generation of citizens.
