Dear Viewers and Listeners:

ETV is giving summer television a boost with a strong slate of new primetime science and nature programming including Big Blue Live, an unprecedented series documenting the convergence of whales, sharks, and other sea life in Monterey Bay, California, in August.

New this month, Life on the Reef examines the breathtaking beauty of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, one of the richest and most complex ecosystems on earth. Operation Wild follows veterinarians who travel the globe performing operations to save wild animals’ lives. The award-winning science series NOVA features two new offerings: Chasing Pluto, which reveals the first detailed images of the planet; and Nuclear Meltdown Disaster, which examines the earthquake and tsunami in Fukushima, causing one of history’s worst nuclear accidents.

Also this month, The Bomb tells the story of the most powerful and destructive device ever invented. Uranium: Twisting the Dragon’s Tail touches on the scientific and natural histories of uranium and its many uses, from weaponry to medicine. Humanity from Space traces mankind’s journey, from the perspective of space, from hunter-gatherer to dominant global species.

The SCETV Presents special Climate Change: A Global Reality brings together a panel of experts to examine how human activity is affecting the climate. CNN’s John King moderates this discussion, which includes rising temperatures and sea levels, multi-year droughts, and catastrophic weather events.

In addition, the award-winning PBS Digital Studios network on YouTube continues to showcase the weird and wonderful world of science with a series that includes “It’s Okay to be Smart,” “Gross Science,” “BrainCraft,” “Space Time,” and “Crash Course Astronomy.”

On the cultural side, ETV Radio is proud to bring listeners a new series of concerts from the Brevard Music Center’s Summer Music Festival. The Festival includes a variety of opera, chamber, and orchestra performances over seven weeks, performed by BMC students, faculty, and guest artists—perfect for relaxed summertime listening!

ETV offers an array of professional development opportunities for PreK-12 educators. Whether you want to earn credits for recertification, a Master +30, or explore projects-based learning, we’ve got something for you. Resources range from week-long, hands-on technology training to TeacherLine Southeast nationally and locally facilitated and self-paced courses. On August 4 and 5, ETV and the State Museum will co-host a Teacher Technology Conference at ETV and the State Museum. To learn more about ETV education training visit scetv.org/teachercourses.
