Dear Viewers and Listeners:
This month the Spoleto Festival USA returns to Charleston, with new dance, drama, music and art presentations. Once again ETV Radio is there to bring listeners all the highlights on Spoleto Today, airing weekdays from May 22 to June 6 at 9 a.m. Hosts Marc Overton and Jeanette Guinn feature updates, interviews, and previews of performances, which include the opera Facing Goya, the Dorrance Dance troupe, the stage production A Brimful of Asha, and much more.
Included in the Spoleto offerings are the perennial favorites, the Chamber Music Concerts, which ETV Radio offers listeners beginning May 30. Performed at the historic Dock Street Theatre, the concerts feature some of the leading musicians of the day, including oboist James Austin Smith, Geoff Nuttall, the St. Lawrence String Quartet, and pianist Stephen Prutsman.
Another endeavor recently culminated in a special event, Remembering Marian: A Celebration of the Music and Life of Marian McPartland, presented by SC ETV Radio, the 92nd Street Y and NPR in New York City. Jon Weber hosted a wide variety of artists who paid tribute to McPartland in music and song, including Barbara Carroll, Bill Charlap, Grace Kelly, Helen Sung, Jon Faddis…and surprise appearances by Tony Bennett and Michael Feinstein. The event was produced by Shari Hutchinson who for 30 years worked with Marian McPartland on Piano Jazz. Plans are in the works for a special radio broadcast of the performance later this year.
ETV is proud to present the sixth program in the series South Carolinians in WWII, in observance of Memorial Day. This episode, The Rising Sun, focuses on the early days of war in the Pacific, and highlights the Paris Island Marine Training Base. Be sure to check our schedule for more Memorial Day offerings, including ETV’s Man and Moment series; an in-depth look at returning veterans on Coming Back with Wes Moore; and a history of women’s contributions to war efforts on Unsung Heroes: Women and the War.
As always, we appreciate your viewership and listenership, as well as your valuable and unwavering support.
