Dear Viewers and Listeners:
As the new school year gets underway, all of us at ETV are reminded that the “E” in ETV is central to what we do. ETV was founded as an education provider for the citizens of South Carolina, using the latest technologies available at the time. Today, 51 years later, the technology has changed, but the mission remains.
That’s why we’re thrilled to see the response to our first ever Educational Media Teacher of the Year Awards. We developed these awards as a way to recognize the important efforts by South Carolina teachers and schools in using technology in imaginative and effective ways.
Congratulations to our award winners: Lisa Holiman, Delmae Heights Elementary, Florence (Florence District One) and Ashley Lisa Rouse, Lincoln Middle-High, McClellanville (Charleston School District)
We also want to congratulate the many schools recognized for their efforts in using ETV’s StreamlineSC and the variety of online and interactive resources this service provides.
When we presented the Educational Media Teacher of the Year Awards at ETV’s Teacher Technology Conference in late July, I had an opportunity to talk with several teachers and administrators about how they used technology in the classroom. I was struck by some common threads—that ETV technology empowers teachers and their students, and it helps bring the world to the classroom. The stories about South Carolina make our state’s history come alive and these stories help develop a sense of community and pride. And, bottom line, they said this technology is making a difference in narrowing the achievement gap.
