Waccamaw Indian People’s Pow Wow

The Waccamaw Indian People’s Pau Wau (Pow Wow) is an annual celebration of local Native American tribes and their kinship with tribes from across North and South America. Many Pow Wow events are shared with the public, inviting visitors to experience Native foods, drum circles, arts, dance, and storytelling. During the Pow Wow, tribal members also conduct sacred ceremonies thought to date back thousands of years. The event is held on tribal lands in Aynor, South Carolina, and has grown extensively over the years as a public attraction.

In this video, Phil White, a Waccamaw indian and organizer of the event, explains the significance of the Pow Wow and its many ceremonial and sacred traditions…
