Sandhills Agriculture

Plants and trees in the Sandhills of the Pee Dee are similar to desert vegetation in that they have adapted to dry, sandy, erosion-prone, nutrient-poor soils. Though conditions such as these are not commonly associated with agricultural areas of the state, farmers have found a way to utilize the best aspects of the region for the successful cultivation of peaches. In this video, Dr. Edinger describes how peach farming took root in this region of the Pee Dee.
