The town of McColl, located near Bennettsville, SC, takes its name from the McColl family, who were instrumental in establishing the area as a hub of cotton ginning, milling, transport, and trade. In this video, we interview Hugh McColl, the great grandson of Duncan Donald McColl (1842–1911), a banker who organized the area's first rail depot, McColl Station. The new rail line was a boon to local commerce as it allowed Marlboro County cotton farmers to transport their product to Charleston's trade center.

Hugh McColl, also a successful banker, provides a brief history of the town of McColl and a personal perspective on growing up in, and eventually away from, the small town.
