Indigenous Medicine



Early Native Americans were wise to the medicinal qualities of plants in the Pee Dee and other regions of the southeast. This knowledge was passed down through many generations of Native Americans, and was eventually transferred to Europeans and Africans entering the area in the Colonial Era. In this video, botanist Dr. Richard Porcher explains the origins and applications of traditional plant based medicines, some of which are still used today!
