Personal Hobbies: Tennis, knitting, reading, cooking
First Memories of Gardening or Doing Anything Agriculture Related: I remember helping my dad in his garden when I was very young and helping dig potatoes.
My Favorite Plants: Ginkgo tree – I love the leaves and anything with Ginkgo leaves (pictures, fabric, lamps, etc). I also am obsessed with heirloom tomatoes. I have a favorite hybrid tea rose called Love & Peace which has a yellow and pink bloom. This rose can be seen at the Edisto Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg, and it’s one of the first roses I head for every time I visit there.
Plants I Like to Grow: Heirloom tomatoes (all kinds), basil (which I use to make pesto), arugula, eggplants (which I don’t like to eat but love to watch grow)
My Least Favorite Things to Do in the Garden: Pull weeds and haul water
Things that Interest Me in Horticulture: Colors – I love colors of flowers, leaves, bark, etc., and I love leaf shapes and textures
Biggest Mistakes in My Garden: Not adequately controlling weeds during the off-season. At the end of the growing season, we are all looking for a break, but this is a crucial time to continue controlling weeds before they go to seed and reproduce for the following season.
People Who Inspire Me to Garden: My Master Gardeners! I love working with such a fun, knowledgeable, passionate group of people. I learn so much from them about all aspects of gardening and horticulture.
