In Our Schools: American Education Week 2009
In celebration of American Education Week, In Our Schools, a special series on ETV produced by ITV as part of the SC Department of Education, features segments on key educational topics.
First, we’ll celebrate famous World War II heroes - The Doolittle Raiders - as we take a look at a segment of a documentary being produced by a South Carolina student. Morgan Adams, an eighth grade student at Crayton Middle School, and our ETV crew attended Celebrate Freedom Education Day to learn about the mission of these remaining veterans who trained in Columbia. State Superintendent Jim Rex was present for the passing of the Raiders insignia on to another generation of our military heroes.
Also, we’ll catch up with our South Carolina Teacher of the Year 2009–10 Bryan Coburn! He represents all our fine SC teachers and is busy traveling the state to visit schools and districts. We’ll learn about his work as a pre-engineering, computer programming and business teacher, visit him at Northwestern High School where he was teaching last year, and hear about what he has done since being named as our state’s outstanding teacher. And finally, our program will highlight an important education initiative that impacts student learning across the curriculum as we celebrate American Education Week 2009.
