Spartanburg Workforce Education

Eighty-five percent of Spartanburg's job growth is in manufacturing. Usually there are many manufacturing jobs available in the area, even though the unemployment rate is high. Students and parents need to be educated about jobs that are available in the region in which they live. A majority of the time, high school students' career interests do not correspond to the available jobs. The #1 career path chosen by high school students in the Spartanburg area is CSI investigator, and #2 is video game programmer. These jobs are not widely available in the Spartanburg area. There are also many misconceptions, as to perceived working conditions in modern factories, compared to the past. The Upstate Chamber, the Upstate Regional Education Centers and manufacturers are working to educate everyone about workforce opportunities in the area.
