Produced and directed by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs since 1979, Piccolo Spoleto is the official outreach program of Spoleto Festival USA. Piccolo’s mission is to provide access to the Spoleto Festival USA experience for everyone, regardless of their economic, social or physical circumstances and to provide the opportunity for excellent local and regional artists, writers and performers to be showcased in the Piccolo Spoleto Festival venues.

The combination of historic Charleston’s old European charm and the world-class Spoleto Festival USA together produce a unique and impactful synergy for all who come to the city by the sea to experience this magnificent international multi-arts festival. The South Carolina Hall of Fame, dedicated on February 11, 1973, by Governor John C. West, was created to recognize and honor those contemporary and past citizens who have made outstanding contributions to South Carolina's heritage, history, and progress. It is a nonprofit corporation conducted under a state charter. The South Carolina Hall of Fame is located in the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On September 21, 2001, Governor Jim Hodges signed into law a bill designating the South Carolina Hall of Fame as the state’s official hall of fame.

Persons born in South Carolina who obtained recognition elsewhere and persons born elsewhere but who made their home in and obtained esteem and recognition in the state of South Carolina are eligible for induction.

One contemporary and one deceased citizen may be inducted into the Hall of Fame annually. The Confederation of South Carolina Local Historical Societies is the official organization for selecting nominees for the Hall of Fame. Each of the Confederation's ten districts selects nominees - thus presenting 10 contemporary and 10 deceased nominees to the Board of Trustees for judging annually.

The South Carolina Hall of Fame is funded by the state of South Carolina, the City of Myrtle Beach and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.

ETV has a long-standing partnership with the Powder Magazine to provide education resources for the classroom. The Powder Magazine develops lesson plans with an emphasis on South Carolina history through collaboration between the Powder Magazine and the Education Department at the College of Charleston. StreamlineSC features these quality lesson plans throughout the state and beyond. ETV also provides hands-on training for teachers about how to use Powder Magazine resources with their students. 

On April 20, 2013, The Powder Magazine museum will celebrate its 300th Anniversary as South Carolina’s oldest public building. The commemoration will include comments from political leadership (including Governor Haley and Mayor Riley) and members of the historical community. A musical demonstration will be provided by the Citadel drum and fife corps, and Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site will provide 18th-century dressed soldiers to honor the occasion with a live musket volley. The public will also be invited to visit the museum’s new exhibition, Arsenal of History: The Powder Magazine of South Carolina, with cake and a commemorative novelty for the first 300 guests. An ongoing colonial living history timeline will also be hosted throughout the day at Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site and will be open to the public.

The Criminal Justice Academy (CJA) has been a loyal partner for many years. This past year, ETV and CJA have expanded services to include several recertification courses over the Internet. CJA produces the video and training criteria, and ETV places the resources in a secured online learning management system. Public safety officers can take the courses online from their office, at home or in their patrol cars. By making the training available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the officer’s time is free to be scheduled in the field, which in turn saves time and money. ETV partners with the S.C. Association of School Administrators (SCASA) throughout the year to help enhance and promote leadership and training efforts to superintendents, principals and other school administrators.

Part of SCASA’s mission is to be the leading force for public education in our state, to advocate for a superior education for the citizens of South Carolina and to ensure a cadre of effective leaders for our state’s schools.

Each year, ETV records and distributes to schools the announcement of SCASA’s Palmetto’s Finest Award winners.  ETV also participates in and helps support SCASA’s Innovative Ideas Institute, which each year provides access to stimulating keynote speakers and effective breakout sessions for hundreds of school administrators from around South Carolina.

Since 2003, ETV has partnered with PBS TeacherLine to bring high-quality, online professional development to S.C. educators. As the premier provider of research and standards-based online education for preK-12 educators, PBS TeacherLine offers more than 80 online courses in science, technology, social studies, math, reading/language arts, STEM, and instructional strategies. To date, S.C. educators in every public school district and many private schools have taken more than 7,000 TeacherLine courses earning S.C. Renewal Credits, PACE credits, ePortfolio technology credits, and graduate credits.

ETV and the Nickelodeon Theatre, the state’s only non-profit art house theater, are partnering on two key projects as part of the city’s Columbia SC 63 year long commemoration of the Civil Rights Movement. Programs from ETV’s Carolina Stories and Southern Lens series will be featured as part of the Nick’s monthly community film series on the subject beginning with The Education of Harvey Gantt. Other programs that will be screened and discussed include Jail, No Bail and Before Rosa.

As part of the ETV American Graduate initiative to combat the dropout problem, ETV and the Nick, along with other partners, Write/Right to Change and Benedict College, will hold an ETV Civil Rights and Social Justice Youth Media Summit. Focusing on digital and social media as a strategy for student engagement, the Summit will teach critical thinking and problem-solving skills to a group of high school students while helping them to understand their place in history. The students will conduct interviews with South Carolina veterans of the Civil Rights Movement and showcase them at student film festivals and on the Knowitall.org website, Road Trip! Through S.C. Civil Rights History.

On February 8-9, 2013, ETV and Richland County School District One are partnering to provide a conference that focuses on new and emerging technology trends in education. This year’s conference will focus on workshops that support the integration and use of mobile technology in a K-12 learning environment. Concurrent sessions, panel discussions, and exhibitors will provide solutions to support three specific areas: Administrators/Leadership Support, Instructional Support, and Technology Support. Find out more at https://sites.google.com/site/scemergingtech/

ETV’s Public Media covers the state legislature, providing the public with key information. From web streaming to half-hour public affairs programs, Public Media supports and reports on important legislative issues. ETV staff manages the state house TV system and for the first time, will also manage the streaming of select House and Senate committees. The Public Media team also streams the Budget and Control Board monthly meetings.

The Big Picture and Connections provide monthly in-depth looks at legislative issues facing all of us in South Carolina. These half-hour programs allow law-makers to go beyond the “sound-bite” and explain in detail legislation important to us all.

Public Media will also produce the Governor’s State of the State address. Each year, the governor addresses the joint assembly to give an overview to the body of issues important to the governor’s office and to the state. Legislators are given a chance to respond to the governor's speech.

With about 184,000 South Carolinians serving in World War II, and thousands more who moved here after the war, ETV and The State newspaper partnered together to tell the stories of these veterans in their own words. The result is a multi-part documentary series, “South Carolinians in World War II" and a special profile series, "Man and Moment." 

Led by The State news reporter Jeff Wilkinson, the production team at Coalpowered Filmworks has captured dozens of first-hand accounts of World War II. With more than 600 of these brave men and women dying each day, it is critical to record oral histories that will otherwise be lost.

Executive producer John Rainey said, "To know what happened in WWII, from those who actually fought and otherwise served--on the ground, in the air and at sea, we must capture their stories now--the stories of those, including the privileged of their generation who went toward the sound of the guns, too, who engaged in what Studs Terkel called the Good War, and at the very basic levels. Otherwise their stories, which tell what really happened in their lives and to their lives, as a result of their selfless sacrifice, will be forever lost."

One of the most recent episodes from "Man and Moment" featured Charles P. Murray, Jr., one of the few South Carolinians to be awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor.  America lost one of its great heroes when Col. Murray passed away in 2011, but his story will live on for future generations, as a result of this important partnership between ETV and The State.
