South Carolina Aquarium

South Carolina Aquarium

The South Carolina Aquarium’s mission is to inspire conservation of the natural world by exhibiting and caring for animals, by excelling in education and research, and by providing an exceptional visitor experience.  The South Carolina Aquarium welcomes guests of all ages, introducing them to the amazing animals that call South Carolina home, as well as exotic animals from the island of Madagascar.

The South Carolina Aquarium is home to the Sea Turtle Rescue Program, the only one in the state of South Carolina.  ETV’s Palmetto Scene recently featured the Sea Turtle Rescue Program and its efforts to rehabilitate and protect threatened and endangered sea turtles.

To ensure that sea turtles have a future in our oceans, the South Carolina Aquarium Sea Turtle Rescue Program aids sick and injured sea turtles with the ultimate goal of returning them to the wild.  The program is able to do so through a partnership with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.  To date, the program has rehabilitated and released more than 130 sea turtles.
