South Carolina State Museum
ETV partners with the SC State Museum to provide educational resources to K-12 teachers and students, and brings culture, history, and science to citizens throughout the state.
Project Discovery, a live interactive electronic field trip series for K-12 students that is produced by the State Department of Education’s eMedia team with ETV, allows all SC students to learn from museum education staff and science, natural history and art professionals. The State Department of Education’s professional development series, Resources for Educators, shows them how museum resources can be used in schools. Teachers access the resources through www.streamlinesc.org and Educator+ on www.knowitall.org.
The State Museum also hosts public screenings for ETV’s Carolina Stories. Uncommon Folk captures some of South Carolina’s self-taught artists and was produced in conjunction with the exhibit by the same title. This fall, the State Museum offers an excellent line-up of events, including the launch of Robert Ariail’s Historic Astronomy Collection in September. The South Carolina State Museum and the University of South Carolina are joint recipients of a world-class collection of historic telescopes and astronomy books, documents and equipment donated by astronomy collector, Robert Ariail. In October, the Museum will feature The 150th Anniversary of the Charleston Earthquake.
Through innovative partnerships, comprehensive collections, and stimulating exhibits and programs, the SC State Museum provides educational environments that entertain, inspire imagination and creativity, and enrich the lives of visitors.
