Through a generous grant from the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation, SCETV was able to partner with the internationally acclaimed classical music ensemble, the American Chamber Players, to present master classes at Southeast Middle School and Lower Richland High School, and a major donor concert in ETV Radio’s studios. The grant also provided the means to produce an educational session and concert with 51 elementary school students at SCETV. The resulting workshops will also become part of ETV’s online school resources. The American Chamber Players were organized by our own Miles Hoffman, host of the nationally broadcast Spoleto Chamber Music series and the Minute with Miles modules heard on ETV Radio.
Miles Hoffman is a nationally renowned violist and founder of American Chamber Players. Other members of ACP include cellist Stephen Balderston, violinist Janet Sung, flutist Sara Stern, and pianist Anna Stoytcheva. Formed in 1985, ACP has toured throughout North America, been engaged and re-engaged by prestigious concert series from Florida to British Columbia, and traveled to Paris for a series of special gala concerts at the Paris Opera and the Bibliotheque Nationale. ACP has also been heard countless times on National Public Radio's Performance Today and on local radio stations throughout the U.S.
Radio outreach into South Carolina schools is unique to ETV Radio, which is an acclaimed national music producer for NPR. Unlike commercial radio, ETV Radio works with actual musicians and has contacts school teachers might not have. “Because ETV Radio has cultivated strong relationships with world class musicians through our productions, we have the ability to connect these talented performers with educators and students in South Carolina,” said Shari Hutchinson, general manager of ETV Radio. Miles Hoffman, who leads the American Chamber Players, hosts ETV Radio’s national series Chamber Music from Spoleto Festival USA and A Minute with Miles, in which he answers classical music questions in less than sixty seconds.
The workshops are made possible in part by the Paul M Angell Family Foundation and the ETV Endowment of South Carolina.
