Full Program Description

February is Career and Technology Education Month as well as Job Shadowing Month in South Carolina!  This month on Carolina Careers, we will review both events and share ways to enhance your CTE enrollment and your school’s work-based learning numbers.

Creating a Career with the Media Arts in Mind, Part 5 will continue our intriguing interview with South Carolina media arts specialists on their career pathways. This series is great to share with students who might benefit hearing first-hand from a professional photographer, a studio sound technician, a “serious game” designer whose games help rehabilitate stroke victims, an owner of an animation studio, the manager of the Film Office at South Carolina PRT, and others.  This month in the segment entitled “What Advice Would You Have for K-12 Students Interested in Your Career Field?" our panelists will share valuable advice for students considering career pathways that fall within the Arts, A/V Technology and Communications career cluster.

Continuing our year-long focus on the work of South Carolina’s CTE career centers, we will host two outstanding career counselors from rural career centers that have excelled in their work to create opportunities for their students through their center.  Kama Staton, of the Office of Career and Technology Education (OCTE), will interview Elaine Rosenbaum (Abbeville Career Center) and Murline Ingram (Newberry Career Center) as they share tips on how their collaborative approach with community and business leaders, feeder high schools, middle school career explorations programs, and CTE teachers support their students’ career development.  “Guidance Excellence at South Carolina Rural Career Centers” is a segment you’ll want to be sure to view before you begin your eIGP sessions with students and their families.

The consensus among career guidance professionals confirms that today’s students are hungry to explore careers in which they can utilize their passion for gaming.  South Carolina CTE programs are, thus, embracing gaming courses to meet the need of these students.  OCTE’s Tony Dillon joins us to share his courses in gaming on “Ten CTE Courses That Will Change South Carolina.” Don’t miss this one as Tony explains one of the state’s most popular and fastest growing CTE courses.
