On January 21, 2014, the EOC released a report evaluating the Child Development Education Pilot Program (CDEPP), a full-day educational pre-kindergarten program for at-risk four-year-olds residing in 51 SC school districts. The program is currently in its eighth year of implementation in both public and private child care centers. Although the program has expanded the number of students served this year, data and quality issues persist.

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is the highest honor that a science or math teacher can receive. Established by Congress in 1983, the PAEMST program authorizes the President to bestow up to 108 awards each year.
Nominations for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching are now open for teachers in grades K-6. (The program alternates between grades K-6 teachers in even years and grades 7-12 teachers in odd years.)
