Mental Health and Guns

AIR DATE: February 22, 2013

News coverage of the Newtown, Connecticut tragedy and, more recently, a school bus driver killed in Mobile, Alabama while trying to protect children on his bus, has raised concern among parents about the correlation between mental health and gun violence. Parents and average citizens are concerned about the safety of their children and themselves. On this episode of Connections, host P.A. Bennett will speak with South Carolina law enforcement and mental health professionals about what is being done to protect you, your children, and the public against gun violence. Special guests include: Leon Lott, Sheriff, Richland County; Geoff Mason, Deputy Director, Community Health Services, S.C. Department of Mental Health; Melissa Craft, School Based Services, S.C. Department of Mental Health; and Jackie Hicks, President of the SCEA (S.C. Education Association).
