Steel Roads and Iron Men highlights the old Columbia Newberry and Laurens Railroad, with anecdotes of the trials, tribulations and tragedies experienced by those who worked for the now-defunct railroad line. Interviews with the men who drove the spikes and manned the engines, starting in the early 1940s, fuel this nostalgic journey back in time. This special also examines the logging railroad operations, the plight of the old depots and what the future holds for passenger service in the South.
