2005 Master Teachers.

Lucian TomusLucian Tomus

Prior to becoming the Technology Coach at Ridgeland Elementary School, Lucian worked one on one with Special Education students in West Hardeeville School and Ridgeland Elementary. Before he entered the teaching profession, he was system engineer, a graphic designer, an electrician, and a nuclear technology operator.

Lucian holds his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Science and for the last two years has taken post-graduate courses in Computer Science. He has won awards in Chemistry and Physical Science on the county level.

2004 Master Teachers.

Beth ThomasBeth Thomas

Beth is in her 24th year of teaching in South Carolina schools. She is a fifth grade Science and Social Studies teacher at Brunson Elementary School in Brunson, SC. During her career in Hampton District 1, she has taught second grade, too. Beth was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1994-95 and 1996-97. She was also named District Teacher of the Year for 1996-97.

Beth has served on numerous committees at her school including Science Fair, Recycling Projects, Relay for Life, and Drug Awareness. She has supervised student teachers and assisted teacher cadets. Her biography is listed in “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.” She is a member of the SC Teacher Forum and Delta Kappa Gamma. Beth shares her musical talents with her students and church.

Beth graduated from Columbia College with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and holds a master’s degree in Education from the University of South Carolina. She earned her National Board Certification in 2003.

Esther ThomasEsther Thomas

Now in her 13th year of teaching middle school, Esther taught nine years in the Bamberg 2 School District and has been in the Orangeburg 4 district for four years. Along with teaching, she is the science department chair at Carver-Edisto Middle School in Cordova. She is also involved in an after-school tutoring program and is a contributing writer for the Bamberg-Calhoun-Orangeburg Science Curriculum Guide.

Esther earned her bachelor of arts degree in biology and chemistry from Oakwood College in Huntsville, AL.

Christie Trezevant Christie Trezevant

Now in her fourth year of teaching, Christie teaches kindergarten at Whale Branch Elementary School in Seabrook. She earned her bachelor of arts degree in early childhood from the University of South Carolina and is currently working on her master's degree in technology education from Lesley University.

Carlette Troy Carlette Troy

Carlette teaches fifth grade at Edisto Elementary School in Orangeburg. During her five years at Edisto, she has also taught in the tutoring program and the summer school program. She has completed several science programs, including Starlabs and Science Kit Certification. In addition, she is the point of contact for the Bamberg-Calhoun-Orangeburg Math/Science Hub.

She earned her bachelor of science degree from Claflin University and is currently working on her master's degree from Lesley University in the Reading Program with a focus on Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.
