Moving East: Tiny House Movement in SC
The average home in the United States is 2,600 square feet. Now imagine living in a house one-eighth that size. That’s what one family has decided to do. The Singletary family wanted to downsize, in order to have life experiences, instead of being forced to keep up with a mortgage.
According to The Tiny Life, a “tiny house is between 100 and 400 square feet.” Other reasons folks around the U.S. are joining the movement are to have a smaller carbon footprint, and the desire to have more time and freedom. CNN writes that, “76% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck.”
According to WPDE, tiny housing communities could become a reality in Horry County. “Some developers want to build tiny house communities in our area, which would require changes to the county law.” According to South Carolina zoning laws, tiny houses are either registered as a mobile home or an RV. The more popular option is having your own private land for your tiny house to live on.
