The Birthplace of Sweet Tea

In the late 1700s a French botanist landed on Middleton Place in Summerville, South Carolina bringing the first tea plants to the United States. The Lowcountry is also home to the only tea plantation in America, the Charleston Tea Plantation on Wadmalaw Island.
