ETV Now Offering Read to Succeed Course!
Through its partnership with PBS TeacherLine, ETV is now offering a Read to Succeed (R2S) Foundations in Reading course! Approved by the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE), this course is one of four required to earn the R2S Literacy Teacher Endorsement which all SC educators certified in Early Childhood, Elementary, Special Education, Montessori (through Elem II), and ESOL (if primary area of certification) must earn within two certificate renewal cycles.
The course, (RDLA152) An Introduction to Underlying Principles and Research for Effective Literacy Instruction, one of PBS TeacherLine’s most popular courses, was recently approved as a Foundations in Reading course after ETV and PBS TeacherLine worked together to revise and update the content to meet the required criteria.
Delivered entirely online over a 6-week period, the course focuses on the fundamental principles that inform research-based literacy and reading instruction. Learners will study the developmental stages through which young children gain independence in the use of phonemic awareness, phonics, and word recognition, as well as the increasing levels of complex skills required for students to increase their vocabulary and comprehension skills. Learners will also explore the literacy needs of English language learners (ELL), students with learning disabilities, and other struggling readers. Upon completion of the course, learners will have a strong foundation of research-based literacy instruction methods and activities to draw from as they transform their teaching practices to meet the specific needs of their students, the curricular goals of their school district, and the SC state standards.
Upcoming start dates include September 14, and October 19, 2016. The course price varies depending on whether it is taken for 60 SC Renewal Credits or 3 Graduate Credits as well as if any discounts are offered by ETV or PBS at the time of enrollment.
The SCDE notes, “In the case of the Read to Succeed Act, the appropriate Read to Succeed endorsement has been made mandatory for educators in the state of South Carolina and indicates that the endorsed educator has the baseline knowledge of South Carolina Literacy Competencies needed to support reading development of the students he/she serves.”
