New from Colonial Williamsburg: HERO Live! October 15, 1 p.m.
HERO Live! is the new name for the Colonial Williamsburg American history education series designed for students in grades 4-8. Using 21st century technology and dramatizations with re-enactors to play the roles of historical figures, the HERO Live! programs are correlated to standards, providing a compelling learning experience. The first program for 2015-16 entitled Balance of Power will air October 15 at 1:00 p.m. on ETV’s SC Channel (SCC).
In Balance of Power Presidents, members of Congress and Supreme Court Justices from the past two centuries compete in a baseball game unlike any you’ve ever seen! Students will discover how the rules laid out in the U.S. Constitution preserve the balance of power between the three branches of government: the executive, legislative and judicial. See information on other programs below.
ALL SC schools may view the HERO Live! programs on ETV’s South Carolina Channel (SCC) at 1:00 p.m. on October 15, November 19, December 17 and January 14, February 11, March 10, and April 14, 2016. ALL SC schools have fair use rights – use for 10 days and erase within 45 days.
Through a partnership with ETV and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, four schools in our state received scholarships for “full access” to the 2015-16 series. Congratulations to Bethel Elementary in Clover, High Point Academy in Spartanburg, White Knoll Elementary in Lexington 1, and Williams Memorial Elementary in Dorchester 4.
The scholarships allow schools that applied and were selected to have “full access,” entitling them to receive the supporting teacher materials and keep the recorded programs for life of the recording, plus have access to all programs/resources in HERO (History Education Resources Online) multimedia library. For 2015-16, schools that did not receive a scholarship may still pay $50 per program to participate with “full access.” For information, contact Dale Van Eck at CWEFT 1-800-761-8331 or email@example.com.
